Spring break season, the time for tropical getaways, is right around the corner. If you are less than enthused about your travel plans due to unsightly spider and varicose veins, now is the time to do something about them. At Incredible Veins Skin & Body, we offer a variety of vein treatments to eliminate troublesome veins and their symptoms. With minimally-invasive procedures and relatively quick results, you can rest assured you will be ready to greet your spring break adventure in style.
The Power of Radiofrequency Energy
Radiofrequency energy has become a popular way to treat large varicose veins, due to its relative comfort, low risk and excellent results. This procedure uses a small cannula inserted directly into the vein to deliver radiofrequency energy. The radiofrequency energy heats the inside of the vessel so it collapses as the cannula is slowly pulled out. The vessel can then be reabsorbed by the body and blood is rerouted to healthy veins nearby.
This procedure, known as Venefit or VNUS Closure, is performed in our office on an outpatient basis. The patient is given local anesthetic to ensure comfort throughout the procedure. Treatment takes less than one hour and most patients are able to return to their daily activities as soon as the procedure is over.
Go Smooth with Laser Treatments
Endovenous laser treatment or EVLT is another minimally-invasive procedure that uses laser energy to treat varicose veins. Like Venefit, the laser energy is delivered via a narrow fiber inserted directly into the vein. The laser heats the internal walls of the vessel, causing them to seal closed. The vein is reabsorbed by the body and blood reroutes naturally to nearby veins.
EVLT is also performed in our office on an outpatient basis using a topical anesthetic. Special goggles are worn by the patient during treatment to protect the eyes from the laser light. Like Venefit, this procedure is relatively quick and most patients do not require any recovery time after the procedure.
Sclerotherapy: Tried and True Results
Sclerotherapy, an injectable treatment for spider and smaller varicose veins, continues to be the go-to treatment for many patients and doctors today. This procedure involves injections of a sclerosing agent into the vessel that irritates vein walls so the vein seals closed. Like the other procedures listed, the treated vein is reabsorbed by the body and blood is rerouted to nearby vessels.
Sclerotherapy does not require any type of anesthesia and the procedure may take just a few minutes to complete. Results are evident right away and continue to improve in the days following the procedure. Some patients may require more than one sclerotherapy session to achieve full results.
Say Goodbye to Large Veins with Microphlebectomy Large, protruding veins can also be removed using minimally-invasive procedure known as microphlebectomy. This procedure is performed under local anesthesia and uses micro incisions and special tools to remove swollen vessels from the leg in small sections. Incisions are too small to need sutures or leave scarring. Patients are usually back to regular activities the same day as treatment or the day after.
